How Sarastar updates
Sarastar downloads updates in the background and installs them when you restart or close it.
Sarastar checks for updates when it starts and every 6 hours. New versions download in the background and install the next time Sarastar closes.
When an update is ready
A strip at the top of Sarastar says Update ready. You can:
- choose Restart now to install it straight away. Save your work first: Sarastar won't restart with unsaved changes.
- choose Later, and it installs when you next close Sarastar.

Which updates you get
Your licence decides your channel: alpha testers get alpha builds, beta testers beta builds, everyone else stable releases.
New versions reach everyone over a few days, so a colleague may be offered one a day or two before you.
Turn automatic updates off
In Sarastar, open Options, then General, and turn off Check for updates. You can then install new versions from the portal's Downloads page.
Messages you might see
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| The update could not be downloaded | Choose Download to get the installer from the portal instead. |
| This version was withdrawn | We found a problem with your version. Sarastar goes back to the previous good one; download the current version when it's offered. |
| This version is no longer supported | Sarastar is in view-only mode until you update. |
| Updates for this PC are managed by your IT department | Sarastar was installed for everyone on the PC (MSI). Ask your IT team for new versions. |
