These terms are the agreement between you and Sarastar Pty Ltd (ACN 691 863 402) as trustee for the Lyon Family Trust (ABN 58 429 022 957), based in Western Australia ("Sarastar", "we", "us").
- Part A covers this website and the customer portal.
- Part B is the End User Licence Agreement for the Sarastar software: the same agreement you accept in the software.
- Alpha testers also accept the Alpha Tester Agreement.
How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
Part A: Website and portal terms
A1. Using the website
The website tells you about Sarastar and lets you manage your account. We try to keep it accurate and available, but information on it may change, and it may sometimes be unavailable. Roadmap dates and planned features are intentions, not promises.
A2. Your account and the customer portal
- During the alpha, accounts are by invitation. You sign in with a Google or Microsoft account. Keep access to it secure: you are responsible for what is done with your Sarastar account.
- If you belong to a company account, its owners and administrators manage its people, licences, computers and sites, and can see the usage time recorded against its licences. Site managers can see usage time for their sites.
- We may access your account to support you, keep the service secure, or as the law requires.
A3. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the website or portal. In particular, don't try to access other people's accounts or data, interfere with or overload the service, probe it for weaknesses without our written permission, or collect information from it by automated means.
A4. Downloads
Download Sarastar only from sarastar.com.au or through the software's own updates. Your use of the software is governed by Part B.
A5. Prices and payment
The alpha and the public beta are free. Paid licences will be offered on the prices published on our website, with any terms specific to them shown before you buy.
A6. Liability
Section 10 (Warranties and the Australian Consumer Law) and section 12 (Limitation of liability) of Part B also apply to the website and portal.
A7. General
These terms are governed by the laws in force in Australia. We may update them; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the website or portal after a change means you accept it. Questions: support@sarastar.com.au.
Part B: End User Licence Agreement
Version 2026-10
This agreement is between you and Sarastar Pty Ltd (ACN 691 863 402) as trustee for the Lyon Family Trust (ABN 58 429 022 957), an Australian business ("Sarastar", "we", "us"). It covers the Sarastar software, its updates and documentation, and the online services it uses (together, the "Software").
You accept this agreement by choosing I agree when Sarastar asks, or by using the Software. If you accept on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it, and "you" includes that organisation. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
1. Your licence
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Software for your own internal business, study or personal purposes, within the limits of the licence you or your organisation hold: its term, the number of people and computers it covers, and any other conditions shown in your account at sarastar.com.au. The Software is licensed, not sold.
If your organisation gives you a licence, it may assign, move or withdraw that licence, and its own agreement with us also applies.
2. Accounts, activation and online checks
- You sign in with a Sarastar account. Keep your sign-in details private; you are responsible for what is done with your account.
- Using a licence on a computer activates that computer. Activation stores an identifier derived from the computer's hardware, so the licence stays tied to it. You can free a computer from your account or from the Software.
- The Software checks the licence with our servers regularly. It works offline for up to 30 days after the last check, or up to 90 days after an offline check-out.
- If the licence cannot be confirmed, has expired, or this version is no longer supported, the Software continues in view-only mode: you can still open and view your files, but not save changes until the licence is confirmed or the Software is updated. Your files are never locked or deleted.
- Do not share, sell or circumvent licences, activation or the online checks.
3. Pre-release versions
Alpha, beta and other pre-release versions are provided to evaluate the Software and give us feedback. For those versions:
- They are unfinished. Features may change or be removed, and they may contain errors that affect your results or files. Keep copies of important work.
- They are not for production use. Do not rely on their results for engineering, design, safety or commercial decisions. Files and images they export may be marked "not for production".
- Each pre-release build switches to view-only mode on a date shown in the Software; a newer build replaces it.
- Unless we say otherwise, keep what you learn about unreleased features confidential.
- We may end a pre-release programme at any time.
4. What you may not do
You may not, or let anyone else: (a) copy, modify or make derivative works of the Software, except as the law allows; (b) distribute, sell, rent, lend or provide the Software to others, including as a hosted service; (c) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, except to the extent the law does not allow this to be restricted; (d) remove or alter any copyright or other notices; (e) circumvent licensing, security or technical protection measures; or (f) use the Software to build a competing product.
5. Your files and work
Your project files and designs are yours. The Software does not send them to us. The only files we receive are ones you choose to attach to a bug report. You are responsible for your data, backups, and meeting your own legal obligations for the data you process with the Software.
6. Information the Software sends
Our privacy policy (sarastar.com.au/privacy-policy) explains how we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). In summary:
- Licensing. Your account, the computer identifier, the computer's name, operating system and Software version, sent when the licence is activated and checked.
- Usage time. While a licence is in use, the Software records time in use in blocks (15 minutes by default), noting whether you were working or a calculation you started was running. It sends these records to us for licensing, for usage-based licences and to show you and your organisation how the Software is used. Your organisation's owners and administrators can see the time recorded against their licences. This record is part of the licence and is not affected by the analytics setting below.
- Crash reports. Sent only as you choose: always, after asking, or never. They contain technical details of the crash with your user folder name removed.
- Usage analytics. Anonymous information about which features are used and how quickly they run, never file or project contents. In pre-release programmes it is part of the programme; in other versions it is off unless you turn it on.
- Updates. The Software asks our servers which version to use.
You can change the crash report and analytics choices at any time on the Account page. An IT department can turn them off, or keep the Software offline, through system policy.
7. Updates
The Software downloads updates in the background and installs them when you close it, or when you choose to restart. It never restarts over unsaved work. We may withdraw a faulty version, in which case the Software may return to the previous one. Where your IT department manages the installation, it decides when updates are installed. Updates are covered by this agreement unless they come with new terms, which you will be asked to accept.
8. Third-party components
The Software includes third-party and open-source components under their own licences. Their notices are shown on the Software's About page. Those licences govern those components where they conflict with this agreement.
9. Ownership and feedback
Sarastar and its licensors own the Software and all intellectual property in it. We grant only the rights stated here. If you give us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
10. Warranties and the Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this agreement excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability for such a guarantee can be limited, it is limited to supplying the Software again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
Apart from that, and to the extent the law allows, the Software is provided "as is", without any other warranty, express or implied, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or that it will be error-free or uninterrupted.
11. Your responsibility for results
The Software is a tool for qualified people. Check its results before relying on them, and have designs, estimates and plans reviewed by a suitably qualified person as your work and the law require. The Software does not replace professional judgement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data or use, however it arises. Our total liability under or in connection with this agreement is limited to the fees you paid for the Software in the 12 months before the claim arose, or AUD 100 if you paid nothing.
13. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or end your licence if you breach this agreement, if a licence was obtained dishonestly, or if we must to comply with the law. Your licence also ends when its term ends and is not renewed. You may stop using the Software at any time. When the licence ends, stop using the Software and delete your copies; you can still open your own files with any version that remains licensed to you. Sections 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 continue after termination.
14. Export and sanctions
Comply with all export control and sanctions laws that apply to your use of the Software. You confirm you are not located in, or acting for anyone in, a country or region subject to comprehensive sanctions.
15. General
This agreement is governed by the laws in force in Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. It is the whole agreement about the Software, except for any written agreement your organisation has with us, which prevails where the two conflict. If a part is unenforceable, the rest continues. You may not transfer this agreement without our written consent. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it.
We may update this agreement. The Software will show the new version, and you must accept it to keep using the Software.
