Alpha Tester AgreementVersion 2026-10

The terms for taking part in the Sarastar alpha: what we ask of testers, confidentiality, and the founding tester benefit.

Version 2026-10

This agreement is between you and Sarastar Pty Ltd (ACN 691 863 402) as trustee for the Lyon Family Trust (ABN 58 429 022 957), an Australian business ("Sarastar", "we", "us"). It covers your place in the Sarastar alpha programme (the "Alpha").

It adds to the End User Licence Agreement (the "EULA"), which you also accept and which governs your use of the software. Where this agreement deals with something specifically for the Alpha, this agreement applies; otherwise the EULA does. How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy.

You accept this agreement by choosing Accept in the customer portal.

1. The Alpha

  • It's for individuals. The Alpha is by personal invitation. You take part as an individual, in your own right, and not on behalf of an employer or any other organisation. Your alpha licence is for you alone: don't share it or let anyone else use it.
  • It's free. We will not charge you for anything during the Alpha.
  • Your licence lasts for the period shown in your account at sarastar.com.au. We may extend it.
  • It's early. Alpha builds are unfinished. Features will change, some may be removed, and there will be errors. Section 3 of the EULA (Pre-release versions) applies in full.

2. Not for critical work

Alpha builds may produce wrong results, lose data or stop working without warning. So you agree that you will not use the Alpha, or anything it produces, for:

  • mine designs, plans, schedules or estimates that are used, submitted or relied on;
  • anything affecting safety, including ground control, slope and pit wall stability, ventilation, blasting, and the design of excavations, roads or infrastructure;
  • regulatory, statutory or permit submissions, or public or investor reporting (such as Mineral Resource or Ore Reserve estimates);
  • commercial decisions, contracts, tenders, or advice or work you give to clients or an employer; or
  • anything else where an error could cause injury, damage to property or the environment, or financial loss.

Use the Alpha only to evaluate the software, on copies of data, and check anything that matters with a released tool or an independent method. The Alpha does not replace qualified professional judgement.

You take the Alpha as it is and at your own risk. To the extent the law allows:

  • we are not liable for any loss, damage, cost or claim arising from your use of the Alpha or its output, however it arises, including loss of data, work, profit or opportunity;
  • where a guarantee, right or remedy can't be excluded (for example under the Australian Consumer Law), our liability is limited as set out in sections 10 and 12 of the EULA; and
  • you are responsible for, and agree to cover us against, any claim by another person arising from your use of the Alpha or its output in breach of this section.

3. What we ask of you

  • Test it on realistic tasks, using copies of your data, and tell us what works and what doesn't.
  • Report problems with Report a bug in the software, or by email to support@sarastar.com.au.
  • Keep Sarastar up to date. Each alpha build stops editing on a set date, and updates install automatically.
  • Back up your work. Keep copies of anything you open or create in the Alpha.

4. Confidentiality

What you see in the Alpha is confidential until we release it: unreleased features and their design, alpha builds, performance, and any information we share with you about our plans.

  • Please don't show, share or publish it to anyone, including your employer, colleagues or clients, and including screenshots, videos, reviews, benchmarks or social media posts, without our written permission. Just ask: we're often happy to say yes.
  • This doesn't cover information that is already public, that you already knew, or that you must disclose by law.
  • These obligations last until the information becomes public, or for two years after the Alpha ends, whichever comes first.

5. Feedback

We want your feedback and may use it to improve Sarastar however we choose, without owing you anything for it. We aren't obliged to act on every suggestion. We won't name you as a tester, or quote you, without your permission.

6. Information the Alpha collects

As the EULA and privacy policy explain, the software records usage time as part of your licence. During the Alpha, usage analytics (anonymous information about which features are used and how quickly they run, never your files or project contents) are part of taking part and stay on: they're how we find what to fix. Crash reports are sent only as you choose. Your project files are never sent to us unless you attach one to a bug report.

7. Founding tester benefit

To thank you for helping build Sarastar, if during the Alpha you:

  • used Sarastar for more than 24 hours in total (as shown by the usage time recorded against your alpha licence), and
  • gave us meaningful feedback, such as detailed bug reports, suggestions or reviews of features we asked you to try (we'll decide this reasonably, and let you know if we don't think you qualify),

you're entitled to one named licence, free for the first 12 months after general release (the first paid release of Sarastar). After those 12 months, the licence continues at the published price unless you cancel.

The benefit is personal to you. It can't be transferred or exchanged for cash, and it doesn't apply if we ended your participation for breaching this agreement or the EULA. We'll email you when it's available. Please claim it within 90 days of general release; if you need longer, contact us and we'll be happy to extend it.

8. Support

We'll help as quickly as we reasonably can by email, but the Alpha comes with no guaranteed response times or availability. Services the software uses, such as sign-in and updates, may sometimes be unavailable.

9. Ending

  • You can leave the Alpha at any time by telling us or by no longer using the software.
  • We can end your participation, or the whole Alpha, at any time. We'll give notice where we reasonably can.
  • When the Alpha ends, alpha builds stop editing on their end date. Your files stay yours and open in view-only mode, and we may invite you to the beta or a released version.
  • Sections 2, 4, 5 and 7 continue after the Alpha ends, as do the parts of the EULA that survive termination.

10. General

Sections 10 (Warranties and the Australian Consumer Law), 12 (Limitation of liability) and 15 (General) of the EULA also apply to this agreement. It is governed by the laws in force in Australia. We may update it; if we do, we'll ask you to accept the new version in the customer portal.
